NORMAL, IL — The Normal CornBelters hung on Friday night for an impressive 7-6 win over the Burlington Bees, moving them to just one game behind the .500 mark.

Austin Berggren threw five innings, giving up four runs and six hits, and after the CornBelters left runners stranded, trailed 4-0 heading into inning number six. Cole Martz entered the game for Normal, shutting down the Bees before the rally began.

The sixth inning began with a Zach Zychowski hit by pitch, the sixth time Zach has been plunked this summer. A couple of singles later loaded the bases, knocking out Bobby Helt of the ballgame, where he had been flawless. Griffin Brown singled off of Zach Leuschen to drive in two runs before Austin Wiegand doubled down the line to tie the game.

The teams traded two-run innings in the bottom of the seventh and the top of the eighth, respectively, before Will Jesske logged an infield single to give the CornBelters the lead, a one-run lead they held.

Zach Courson closed it out for the CornBelters, stranding the tying run at third. The CornBelters won their second game in a row, and their third in the last four contests. Danville also won Friday, holding their three-game advantage in the division.
