The Normal CornBelters defeated the Dubois County Bombers 6-5.
The ‘Belters are looking to make a late playoff push in a huge two game series against the
Bombers most likely deciding who will finish in second place and play REX baseball on August
1st for the division championship.
Will Davidsmeier got the start for the CornBelters in the win and did not have this type of start in
mind.
The CornBelters were able to take the first game against the Bombers on the 29th, now trying to
win today and jump them in the division.
In the top of the 1st inning the Bombers got off to a hot start early on the back of Ashton
Seymore who scorched a single to center field to score one. The Bombers were then able to tack
on two more from an RBI groundout by Cole Nathan and a wild pitch to give them a 3-0 lead
early.
This was nothing new for the CornBelters, last night they faced the same deficit and were able to
come back and win. But things got worse for the CornBelters in the second when the Bombers
tacked on two more, forcing Belters manager Billy Dubois to go to his bullpen early with
Normal star reliever Dom Panozzo.


The CornBelters offense came out stagnant but in the bottom half of the third inning they were
able to rally back and put some runs on the board starting with a two-run home run from Austin
Weigand, later in the inning Jackson Stanek was able to send one out to right field 390 feet to
shrink the deficit to one.
Dom Panozzo was able to shut it down for the CornBlters going 6.1 IP into the 7th inning to
keep the score knotted up at five.
Jake Stuteville came into the game in the bottom of the eighth inning with one out and a runner
on second, after throwing a wild pitch to Jack Novak the runner was able to get ninety feet but
Stuteville was able to get out of the jam.
The ballgame then ended in the bottom of the ninth inning when Tyler Thompson came up to bat
bringing around Eli Kieser to get the win and take sole position of second place with one game to
play.

The CornBelters will now match up against the O’Fallon Hoots tomorrow, with a win they would
be playing REX baseball for the division championship on August 1st. If the Cornbelters were to
lose they can also rely on the Dubois County Bombers to lose and that would also keep them in
the playoff picture.
