NORMAL, IL —  With the help of some fresh faces in the lineup, the Normal CornBelters shut out the Terre Haute Rex on Thursday, 5-0.

Austin Berggren made his first start of the season, throwing six innings of shutout ball. Coupled with eight strikeouts, the Rex struggled to find an answer for Berggren, mustering just four hits.

On the offensive side, Tyler Castro led the way for the boys from Normal, going 3-for-3 with a couple of runs batted in. The rising senior from Eastern Illinois also added a run scored.

The scoring began when Zach Zychowski found the gap in left center field for an RBI double, before the CornBelters scored on a couple of two-RBI singles from Chase Mason, and Castro, respectively.

Austin Berggren was not the only new face in the lineup. Terrick Thompson-Allen and Will Flanigan made their Prospect League debuts, both notching a hit. Thompson-Allen showed off his speed in the 4th, legging out an infield single.

The CornBelters won their first home game of the young season Thursday, snapping a three-game losing streak. They head to Danville for a contest Friday night before returning home Saturday to face the Alton River Dragons.
