The Normal CornBelters defeated their Central
Division rival, Danville Dans, 5-1 Tuesday night. Zach Courson earned
the win on the mound in Normal’s best pitching performance in two
weeks. Courson went the first six innings. He allowed an unearned run
in the second. Zach scattered five hits, he struck out eight Dans, and
he only walked one. Brady Banker threw two scoreless innings without
giving up a hit in relief and Toby Schriefer finished off the victory
in his CornBelter debut.

Tyler Castro recorded an RBI on a groundout in the second to tie the
game at one against the Dans’ starter, Brendan Clarke, who also threw
the sixth inning. The Belters only pushed one run across in the second
after loading the bases with nobody out. Zach Zychowski singled home a
run in the fifth to give Normal the lead. Tyler Thompson had a triple
and a couple RBIs and Landon Johnson doubled home a run a night after
he had his 14-game hit streak snapped.

Up next: The CornBelters go back on the road to take on the
Springfield Lucky Horseshoes for a two-game mini series Wednesday &
Thursday, July 4. First pitches are set for 6:30pm both nights.
