The Normal CornBelters continued their hot stretch of play Tuesday night, defeating division rival Quincy 6-1 at the Corn Crib. The ’Belters were backed by veteran Graham Kasey, who turned in another dominant outing on the mound.  

Kasey was nearly invincible, throwing six innings with just one hit and one run allowed. The lone run came in a solo HR in the first inning for the Doggy Paddlers, but the left-hander quickly settled in and shut out the Quincy lineup the rest of the evening. Kasey totaled 10 strikeouts and 0 walks, improving his record to 3-0 as a starter and earning the player of the game. The University of Illinois Springfield product has emerged as one of the CornBelters’ most dependable starters this summer.

Halfway through the 2026 season, Kasey has accounted for 32 strikeouts compared to just 5 walks, highlighting the command and ability to consistently attack the strikezone. All around the bullpen, the CornBelters are 3rd in the Prospect League in strikeouts with 133, showcasing a pitching unit that has been steady and a force to be reckoned with in the League.

Normal currently stands at 11-8 and third place in the Northwest Division. The ’Belters are seeking to build up on wins and punch a ticket to the playoffs for the first time since 2022. 

The CornBelters look to carry the momentum and fight for the first spot in the Northwest Division as they travel to Clinton Wednesday night. The LumberKings are currently top in the division and hold a five game win streak.
