The Corn Crib Hosts the 2024 Legends Home Run Derby

 

Normal, IL. - The Corn Crib, home of the Normal CornBelters and Kernels Collegiate League, plans to host the 2024 Legends Home Run Derby! The Legends Home Run Derby, presented by Sam Leman Auto Group and Play9 Sports will be held on Saturday, July 27th, 2024 at the Corn Crib.

The autograph session takes place from 4 to 6 PM, with gates opening at 3:30 PM, and the 2024 Legends Home Run Derby begins at 7:00 PM

The Legends Home Run Derby will feature four former MLB players batting against the best the KCL and Cornbelters have to offer. Round 1 will be MLB Alumni and KCL or CornBelters sluggers hitting against one another. Each batter will have 3 minutes in this round to hit as many home runs as they can. In Round 2, the top four home run totals from the first round will have 3 minutes to compete in the same style as Round 1. Round 3 will be the top two home run totals from the previous round and have only 2 minutes to hit as many home runs as they can to be the Legends Home Run Derby Champion.

Leading off the list of Legends is Andruw Jones, a former Major League Baseball silver slugger who hails from St. Paulus, Curacao. Jones hit 434 home runs over his 17-year career while being named a five-time All-Star. Spending 12 of his 17 years with the Atlanta Braves, Jones helped the team to eight consecutive division titles and won ten straight Gold Gloves from 1998 to 2007 as an outfielder. He broke onto the scene in 1996 when he became the youngest player in MLB history to hit a home run in the World Series at 19 years and 190 days old, breaking the record previously held by Mickey Mantle. Jones played for the Dodgers, Rangers, White Sox, and Yankees before hanging up the cleats in 2012.

Joining Jones is Geovany Soto, a former MLB catcher who is best known for his time with the Chicago Cubs, where he earned Rookie of the Year and All-Star honors in 2008. Renowned for his defensive skills and powerful hitting, he also played for the Rangers, Athletics, and Angels before retiring in 2017.
Next on the list of this year's contestants is Bo Hart. Born and raised in Creswell, Oregon, Hart was drafted out of Gonzaga University in 1999. After working his way through the Cardinals organization, Hart debuted during the 2003 season. Boasting a .272 career batting average, as a rookie, Hart hit .277 and set an MLB record with 28 hits through his first 15 career games.
Rounding out the field will be veteran MLB catcher Wellington Castillo. Castillo, a native of San Isidro, Dominican Republic first made a name for himself at Wrigley, playing a major role in the Cub's return to prominence during the 2015 season. Following his time in Chicago Castillo then played for the Seattle Mariners, Arizona Diamondbacks, Baltimore Orioles, and Chicago White Sox before retiring at the end of the 2019 season.
New to this year's Legends Home Run Derby, the Corn Crib will be playing host to a Police vs. Firefighters Home Run Battle. This year, each team will earn donations to a charity of their choice based on the number of home runs hit, and battle for the title of Home Run Champion.
All four Legends will be made available for autographs on the field during an exclusive two-hour autograph session! Fans who are interested can purchase tickets to both the event and the autograph session for $40 while tickets remain.

General Admission tickets for the event are $14 online, or $15 at the window on the day of the event.  Only a limited number of autograph tickets will be made available. We hope to see you at the Corn Crib on July 27th!
